The center, founded in 1999 in Puerto del Carmen, has more than 60 beds, 3 operating rooms and attends more than 85,000 patients a year
Lanzarote, December 2019:- Hospiten Lanzarote is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is doing so as the leading private hospital on the island. The center, which opened in Puerto del Carmen in 1999 and was the first of the group’s hospitals outside Tenerife, currently has 60 beds in all, three operating rooms and handles more than 2,000 admissions a year.
The medical director of Hospiten Lanzarote, Juan Antonio Santana, states that ‘the center currently offers the widest range in private healthcare on the island and we are proud of that. Hospiten took a leap of faith in offering the people of Lanzarote a new service and it was so well accepted that since then, we have continued to grow offering more and better healthcare services’.
Over the two decades the hospital has been open, the range of services and specialties has grown, gradually increasing the number of beds, opening the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance service and the dermatology service, which was in great demand on the island at the time. The center has also incorporated specialties like cardiology, dentistry, neurology and, most recently, nephrology.
Hospiten Lanzarote has also been a pioneer of the video-consultation clinic, carrying out medical consultations with patients referred from gynecology and internal medicine mainly under the supervision of Professor Manuel Maynar, head of the Hospiten Endoluminal/Endovascular Diagnostics and Therapeutics Service.
Among other improvements that are a sign of Hospiten’s commitment to the people of Lanzarote is the setting up of a Pain Management Unit this last year, an important step in improving the treatment of all types of pain and conditions of patients requiring special, multidisciplinary treatments.
“I have fond memories of our beginnings and of the people we have worked beside sharing the excitement of a new project that has come together little by little with hard work. In a certain way, Hospiten Lanzarote represents a little of us all, everyone who does our best each day to help those who need us”, explains Dr. Juan Antonio Santana.
With 50 years’ experience, Hospiten has twenty private medical-hospital centers in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Panama, and more than a hundred outpatient centers under the brand Clinic Assist, attending more than 1,700,000 patients a year from all over the world, and employing over 5,000 people.
