Hospiten works with the Jamaican Ministry of Health to improve physical activity in children

Posted on 21-02-2022

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, February 21, 2022. Hospiten donates 125 pairs of sports shoes to the Jamaican Ministry of Health, headed by Dr. Christopher Tufton. In conjunction with the public administration, the hospital aims to ensure that the country's youth can do physical activity that contributes to improving their health wearing appropriate footwear.

The donation is part of the 'Sole2Sole' project, promoted by the minister with the intention that all children may participate in the sports activities proposed by their schools. Tufton says that they are aware that many young people are left out, unable to play because they cannot buy the right sports shoes. School principals have already been instructed to identify the children who need to receive donated footwear. Thanks to this initiative, which began in January, the minister has managed to collect 600 pairs of shoes, in addition to those donated by Hospiten.

During the ceremony held for the delivery, the commercial director of Hospiten Montego Bay, Chevaughne Miller, said that the hospital is proud to be able to collaborate with the community: "If we have healthy children, we will have a healthy nation," Miller stated. During the ceremony, she also recalled the importance of avoiding the sedentary lifestyles which are increasing among young people, and of teaching the importance of an active life at schools.
