Santa Cruz de Tenerife, March 18, 2022. The Hospiten Group and the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) have signed a framework collaboration agreement to inform and raise awareness about the prevention of the disease, through the joint organization of talks, workshops and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits.
The agreement, signed by the Vice President and CEO of the Hospiten Group, Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, and the President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Andres Orozco Muñoz, will initially have a term one year and will enable support in the diffusion of campaigns and actions, as well as any other activity that results in the benefit of people affected by the disease or aims to prevent cancer.
Pedro Luis Cobiella stressed the importance of this type of collaboration, part of the corporate social responsibility plan carried out by Hospiten to promote health and contribute to improving quality of life. "We feel committed to patients and with this new project we reaffirm our support to continue promoting cancer prevention and all advances in diagnosis and treatment that allow us to offer people the best medical options," he added.
To that end, in 2010 MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid joined the Hospiten Group, a center of reference and excellence for cancer treatment in Spain and Europe, and which is also a subsidiary of the prestigious MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston (Texas, USA). For his part, the representative of the Association in the province of Tenerife expressed his satisfaction and gratitude for the involvement of the healthcare group to the benefit of people affected by cancer.
Andres Orozco pointed out that “this year we celebrate our 30th anniversary in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, faithful to our mission, we support and accompany people with cancer and their families, we educate the population on health and we finance research projects that allow a better diagnosis and treatment of this disease.
We have offices on all the islands in the archipelago, where work is carried out to support people with cancer and their families through services at no cost to the beneficiary in psychological care, social care and specialized physiotherapy. In addition, workshops are set up to improve physical well-being, past-times and leisure activities. With the support of our volunteers, actions aimed at promoting health, information and dissemination of our services are launched.

About the Spanish Association Against Cancer
The Spanish Association Against Cancer has been the reference entity in the fight against cancer for 68 years. It dedicates its efforts to showing the reality of cancer in Spain, detecting areas for improvement and launching a process of social transformation that allows them to be corrected in order to obtain a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to cancer. Being by the side of people is in its DNA, so its work is also aimed at helping them prevent cancer; be with them and their families throughout the disease process, if diagnosed; and improve their future by promoting cancer research. In this sense, through its Scientific Foundation, the Association brings together the social demand for cancer research, financing quality scientific cancer research programs through public competition. Today, it is the social and private entity that allocates the most funds to cancer research: 92 million euros in 525 projects, in which more than 1,000 researchers participate.
The Association integrates patients, family members, volunteers and professionals who work together to prevent, raise awareness, accompany affected people and finance cancer research projects that will allow better diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Structured in 52 Provincial Headquarters, and present in more than 2,000 Spanish towns, it has almost 30,000 volunteers, more than 500,000 members and almost 1,000 professionals.
During 2021, the Spanish Association Against Cancer has treated 136,000 people affected by the disease.
