Hospiten Roca shows more than 800 children cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques

Posted on 26-07-2017

Hospiten Roca showed more than 800 children CPR techniques at workshops set up as part of the III Meeting on Emergency Situations for Children held this week by the Santa Lucia de Tirajana Town Council’s Department of Security and Youth at the Vecindario Marquee.

On the morning of Wednesday, July 19 two Hospiten Roca E.R. nurses taught children of between 4 and 16 years of age using dolls to practice the techniques learned.

The workshops also gave the children the chance to learn the basics of the “Heimlich Maneuver”, a first aid procedure used to unblock the airway, often blocked by a piece of food or foreign object.

Alongside Hospiten Roca at the III Meeting on Emergency Situations for Children were representatives of the various law and order and emergency bodies – the Local Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, Fire Department and the Military Emergencies Unit, among others.

Hospiten Roca collaborates with events like this as part of the community health program launched by the hospital in 2010 to encourage, especially children, a culture of prevention and to provide knowledge and the basic skills to maintain good health. During 2016-2017 the hospital has given some 300 talks in schools, public and private institutions and associations as part of the program.
