AENOR certifies MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid with the ISO 9001 Quality Management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management certificates.

The UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008 certification confirms the capacity of the cancer center to provide healthcare services efficiently and to meet standards in quality, in accordance with applicable regulations.

The UNE-EN ISO 14002:2008 is the recognition of MD Anderson's following protocols committed to protecting the environment and preventing contamination.


The MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid has been awarded by the Spanish Association of Standardization and Certification (AENOR) the seals guaranteeing the fulfillment of quality management regulation UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008 and environmental management UNE-EN ISO 14001:2008. The achievement of these two certifications is the result of the implanting of the continued improvement plan established by the cancer center.

By awarding the UNE-EN ISO 9001:2008, AENOR certifies that MD Anderson has at its disposal a quality management system in accordance with the regulation for all the center's clinical healthcare services, such as hospitalization, the oncology day hospital, the intensive care unit, endoscopy, the emergency room, image diagnosis, radiotherapy, surgery, the clinical analysis lab., the anatomical pathology lab., pharmacy and outpatients', in addition to other associated services, like maintenance, the kitchen, laundry, cleaning and archives.

"Achieving this certification at our center will undoubtedly have a direct affect on the wellbeing of the patients and will also motivate all our medical and healthcare staff", explains Dr Pedro Luis Cobiella, President of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid.

Furthermore, the achievement of the UNE-EN ISO 14001:2008 certificate confirms that the center has at its disposal an environmental management system in accordance with the regulation of the provision of clinical healthcare services.

MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid is moving towards the concept of an 'ecohospital', aiming to reduce waste as much as possible, including energy waste, by means of the installation of advanced equipment and of energy filters, in addition to taking advantage of air conditioning flows.

"We are proud to receive these two awards that reflect the commitment we at MD Anderson have to quality and the environment and, in particular, to the continued improvement of our services to fight cancer day after day", states Dr Cobiella.

The fact that an excellent center as is the MD Anderson Cancer Center Madrid successfully applies these systems is an example for the whole sector and a sign of confidence for patients, their families and, in general, all the groups associated with the center".
