Dr. Vides is a specialist in sports injuries and his treatment through arthroscopic surgery, a minimally invasive surgical technique.

January 17, 2018. Dr. Manuel Vides Fernandez, orthopedic surgeon and trauma specialist, joins the medical team of Hospiten Estepona, after a renowned and extensive professional career in the field of sports traumatology and arthroscopy.

Within this area, Dr. Vides is a specialist in the treatment of sport-related injuries through arthroscopic surgery, a minimally invasive surgical technique that allows visualization of the inside of the joints to make a diagnosis through small incisions where cameras, clamps and other very small utensils are introduced allowing doctors to manipulate the interior of the joint without having to open it completely. The result is a reduction in recovery times of patients, with better results and greater safety.

In fact, the orthopedic surgeon states that, "currently most sports injuries such as a torn meniscus, cruciate ligaments or tendons of the rotator cuff in the shoulder, can be operated with arthroscopy. This implies a considerable advance since it is a less aggressive technique and implies a lower rate of pain among patients. Among the most frequent interventions include knee, shoulder and ankle, and to a lesser extent hip, elbow and wrist.

With this new incorporation, Hospiten Estepona reinforces its specialization in the area of Traumatology and Orthopedic Surgery dedicated to offering the diagnosis, control and adequate treatment of the pathologies of this specialty, which includes the external consultations, the orthopedic treatments and all the range of surgical interventions, as well as minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Vides trained at the Universities of Malaga, Seville and Padua (Italy). He was also part of the Orthopedic Surgery Services of the Virgen de Valme Hospital in Seville, the New England Baptist Hospital of Boston and the Costa del Sol Hospital.

Manuel Vides is also a professor at the International University of Andalusia, member of the Spanish and Andalusian Societies of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology, of the Spanish Arthroscopy Association, and until 2017 he was coordinator of the Andalusian Knee Group.
