The healthcare group promotes early detection of this type of cancer, which is curable in 90% of cases if diagnosed in time
Canary Islands, March 2019:- The Hospiten Group has launched its V campaign of free tests to mark the celebration of World Colon Cancer Day, to raise awareness among the population of the incidence of the disease and to remind the public of the importance of early detection in treating the disease.
According to specialists, about 90% of cases of colon-rectal cancer could be cured if they were detected in time, before it gets to an advanced stage. This is the third most frequent tumor among men and the second most common among women. As a general rule, there are usually no symptoms until the cancer is at an advanced stage, the most common signs being changes in bowel movements, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, anemia and abdominal pain.
For this reason, Hospiten has organized, for the fifth consecutive year, a series of open days in which patients and users will be advised on how to prevent this type of cancer, and which includes a fecal occult blood test free of charge.
So, all those over 50 years of age - or 40 if there is a family history of colon cancer - interested in participating in the campaign can make an appointment before April 8 by telephone or at the reception desk of any of the Hospiten centers in the Canary Islands (Hospiten Bellevue, Hospiten Sur, Hospiten Rambla, Hospiten Lanzarote and Hospiten Roca).
The early diagnosis test will take place on April 9 and 10, on the open days, to which you must take your samples. Participants will be able to collect their results from the different centers from April 22.
This is an initiative through which Hospiten wishes to remind the public of the importance of seeing the doctor to undergo one of the two simple tests available to detect colon cancer - the colonoscopy and the fecal occult blood test, the choice of which depends on the age and medical history of each patient. In the event that the result of the occult blood test is positive, a conventional colonoscopy should be performed.
The Hospiten Group is an international healthcare network committed to providing high quality service, with 50 years of experience, which has twenty private medical-hospital centers in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Panama, and more than one hundred ambulatory health centers, under the Clinic Assist brand. The group is chaired by Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella and attends more than 1,700,000 patients from all over the world a year, and employs more than 5,000 people.
