The Association of Private Hospitals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife makes their facilities and resources available to the health authorities in the fight against COVID-19

Posted on 13-03-2020

At a meeting held this morning with Teresa Cruz Oval, Canary Government Health Secretary, the Association of Private Hospitals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife made their centers and resources available to the Canary public health service in support of the fight against COVID-19, and to help avoid the collapse of public hospitals with a joint effort in the global health crisis.

“Private hospitals in Tenerife will continue to run as normal in coordination with health authorities applying the protocols established, although we may adopt exceptional measures like cancelling or re-scheduling non-urgent surgical procedures, diagnostic tests, etc. to work together with public hospitals should there be an increase in the number of cases of coronavirus”, stated Juan Jose Hernandez Rubio, president of the Association of Private Hospitals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

“At the moment, it is vital that we all work together to make all our resources available to the public, where collaboration between the public and private centers is essential, and we respect the work of medical professionals, to whom we owe so much for their dedication and sacrifice in the current situation”.

It is essential the public follow the recommendations of the health authorities and, above all, that they understand that all the measures adopted will help to minimize the effects of the virus.

The Canary Islands, one the leading tourist destinations in the world, has all the mechanisms in place and the resources of the public and private health sector to attend this exceptional situation.

The Association of Private Hospitals of Santa Cruz de Tenerife consists of hospitals belonging to the Hospiten Group (Hospiten Bellevue, Hospiten Tamaragua, Hospiten Sur and Hospiten Rambla), Clinica San Juan de Dios and Quiron Salud Tenerife (Costa Adeje and Santa Cruz), which make up a total of 956 hospital beds.
