Hospiten Rambla has set up their Maternal Educations courses online. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 18.00 to 19.00, mothers-to-be and their partners will be able to attend the live classes which will help to answer all their questions during this period of isolation, while maintaining the social distancing recommended to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The initiative enables us to continue to prepare expectant mothers, to make them feel safe while building their knowledge and understanding of pregnancy, birth and the post-partum period. “The online course follows the same content as our presential course, but they can be done from home and in the company of whoever you want,” explains Carolina Esmerodes, director of Nursing Services at Hospiten Rambla.
Online Maternal Education courses are part of the Hospiten Group’s endorsement of telemedicine and represent the group’s commitment to continue providing services for their patients during this period of social distancing and isolation.
The Maternal Education course is aimed at expectant mothers in their 28th week of pregnancy on. By means of teaching some theory and a variety of practical exercises, women learn to use self-help techniques in preparation for going into labor and giving birth, the aim of which is to make it a satisfying, positive experience applying techniques and exercises designed to help the expectant mother throughout the birthing process. The course is presented by a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals that includes midwives, gynecologists, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and so on.
Among the subjects covered by course are the natural development of a pregnancy, physiological changes during pregnancy and the post-partum period, a healthy diet during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. The course pays particular attention to the newborn baby, covering hygiene, general care and early stimuli, as well as sexuality during pregnancy and the post-partum period. Each session consists of both theory and practice with exercises on physical preparation, breathing and relaxation techniques.
“Our aim was to go on being close to our mothers-to-be, answering all their questions, providing reading material, but we realized how important it was to provide a course, which is terribly helpful in the later stages of pregnancy, during the birthing process and especially in the care of a newborn baby”, Ms. Esmerodes stresses.
Specialties operational
The Hospiten Group maintains its essential services at full capacity for daily operations at all its centers, such as 24-hour emergency services, hospitalization, ICU, outpatient consultations, operating rooms, laboratory, radio-diagnosis and the dialysis unit.
In parallel to this, a video-consultation service, free of charge during the month of April, has been launched to attend patients by answering any questions they may have about their health and to facilitate contact with specialists. The video-consultation service will enable patients to contact internal medicine, pediatrics, gynecology and obstetrics.
Also, free of charge for patients with a medical history in Hospiten, general medicine video-consultations may be requested to answer questions about symptoms and recommendations related to COVID-19, as well as general medicine. This service is also available by calling the hospital.
