In collaboration with Hospiten and the Cabildo de Tenerife, the Menendez Pelayo International University (UIMP) has organized "Updating on the Diagnosis and Treatment of COVID-19", a congress to be held in Tenerife from September 23 to 25, whose aim to understand the mechanisms the virus uses to infect the host and learn more about the mechanisms causing hyperinflammation and potential lung damage. The meeting will also look at the different clinical manifestations of the virus and aims to share and update knowledge of the management, evolution and treatment of COVID-19.
The training sessions are aimed at health professionals - general practitioners, family and community medicine practitioners, specialists, nurses, nursing assistants, pharmacists and biologists. The courses have limited, presential places, but can be followed online from anywhere in the world. This meeting will allow attendees access to information, to exchange opinions and discuss any questions they may have with different specialists involved in patient management.
Dr. Jeronimo Balsalobre, course director and rheumatologist with the Hospiten Group, explains that “the current health situation in terms of the coronavirus means that new information becomes available every day regarding the pathogenic mechanisms of the virus, its clinical manifestations, the diagnostic methods and treatment. So, it is vital that health professionals are continuously studying these aspects to be able to combat spikes in the number of cases in the best way possible”.
Arturo Hardisson, director of the UIMP of Tenerife points out the cultural relevance of the program and its dynamic nature for the Canary Islands. “All of this allows us to firmly state that these courses are deeply rooted within the Canary academic community, undoubtedly constituting a first-rate cultural event. I trust that the autumn 2020 program will be to the liking of the participants after all the effort and dedication the course directors and the technical staff have put into them”. Mr. Hardisson also acknowledges the support of the local, regional and private institutions that have made this new edition possible (Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, Tenerife Cabildo, Canary Islands Government, La Laguna City Council and Hospiten).
In this sense, the organizers have designed a methodology and program to cover all the aspects of knowledge on COVID-19, extendable to all health professionals involved in the treatment of these patients.
Specifically, specialists from the Hospiten Group, the Hospital HLA Inmaculada de Granada, Hospital Universitario de Canarias, the Werfen Group, Hospital Universitario Clinico San Cecilio de Granada, HT Medica, Hospital Universitario Fundacion Jimenez Diaz, Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria University Hospital, Madrid Clinical Hospital, Ramon y Cajal Hospital, San Juan de Dios Hospital, Vall d'Hebron Hospital, Fuenlabrada University Hospital and the Virgen del Rocio Hospital will participate in the September program.
The collaboration between the UIMP and Hospiten confirms the commitment of these institutions to continuous updating in new techniques and avant-garde treatments to continue offering excellence in their services, and to achieving improvements in the quality of life of patients and, in this specific case, to better understand the virus and fight infection effectively.
