Santa Cruz de Tenerife, February 3, 2022. The Hospiten Group consolidates the generation change and appoints Juan Jose Hernandez Rubio, Executive President, who until now held the position of CEO. And Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, who until now had been Managing Director, has become the new Vice President and CEO.

Thus, Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella Suarez, who turned 85 last December, has taken the decision to step back and let the next generation take over after 50 years at the head of the company, and will remain as Honorary President.

Both Juan Jose Hernandez Rubio and Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais have held executive positions in the group for over 20 and 15 years respectively, so this step constitutes a natural evolution within the group. The two directors accept the new responsibility with the aim of continuing the process of expansion and growth of the company that they have been leading in these years, as well as continuing the process of transformation and modernization foreseen in the strategic plan.

Juan Jose Hernandez Rubio, the new Executive President, holds a degree in Economics and Business Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid, and an MBA from IESE Business School (Barcelona). He developed his professional career at Grupo Barceló and Banco Banif (Banco Santander), joining Hospiten in 1999 as Chief Financial Officer; in 2000 he was appointed CEO and in 2011 he assumed responsibility as CEO of Hospiten.

Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, the new Vice President and CEO, holds a degree in Business Administration and Management from ICADE (Madrid) and an MBA from Harvard Business School (Boston). He developed his professional career in London and Madrid in investment banking at Citigroup and with the venture capital company 3i. He joined Hospiten in 2008 as General Manager in the Dominican Republic; then, in Spain, as Director of Operations for the Canary Islands, and in 2011 he was appointed Managing Director of Hospiten.

Dr. Pedro Luis Cobiella Suarez has announced the decision after five decades at the helm of the company he founded in 1969 with his father, Dr. Celestino Cobiella Zaera, his brothers and other renowned doctors on the island, with the opening of the group’s first hospital, Hospiten Bellevue.

"It is time to continue the transformation and modernization process foreseen in the company's strategic plan, maintaining the focus and priority on people and on a healthcare service of the highest quality and excellence", said the doctor and businessman.

“The legacy that my father, my brothers and I have built will continue to grow and improve, as it has done over the years through the vision, skill and commitment of Juan Jose Hernandez Rubio and Pedro Luis Cobiella Beauvais, with the support of the Board of Directors, and the third generation of the Cobiella family”, he added.

Dr. Cobiella Suarez’s decision to step back from the presidency of the Hospiten Group is part of the natural process of generational change taking place in recent years on the Board of Directors, to make way for the new generation of the Cobiella family.

In 2020, Francisco Cobiella Suarez ceded his position on the Board of Directors to his son Javier, a renowned specialist in cardiac surgery; while in the year 2021, Carlos Cobiella Suarez did the same with his son Carlos, an economist by profession and with ample experience in the financial sector.

With twenty private medical-hospital centers in Spain, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Jamaica and Panama, in addition to just over a hundred outpatient medical centers, the Hospiten Group is an international health network recognized for its quality of care, dedication to continuous improvement, the incorporation of new technologies. and state-of-the-art infrastructure. The group has a staff of more than 5,000 professionals who annually attend more than two million patients from all over the world.
