Hospiten Roca collaborates with the Santa Lucia town council on the X Gran Canaria Half Marathon in Memory of Mayor Camilo Sanchez’ to prevent heart disease.

Dr. Joaquin Lopez states that sports screening allows doctors to assess the risk for a person’s heart to be able to do high-performance sports safely.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, September, 2016: Hospiten Roca offers 30 cardiovascular check-ups free of charge to sportspeople signing up for the X Gran Canaria Half Marathon in Memory of Mayor Camilo Sanchez, organized by Santa Lucia town council and held on November 27 to increase awareness among the public of the need to do sport safely.

Through this action, Hospiten Roca and the Santa Lucia town council aim to emphasize the need for prevention of heart disease by reducing the risk of a life-threatening situation whilst doing sport, and in particular whilst taking part in high-performance sports.

The sports committee of the town council will do a lucky draw with some of the check-ups among participants signing up for the half marathon and others will be handed out by means of competitions on the social media.

As Dr. Joaquin Lopez explains, sports screening ‘allows us to assess the risk of heart failure for a sportsperson to make doing sport safer, by carrying out a complete evaluation of the athlete that includes an interview and examination by a cardiologist, ECG and a stress test’.

By participating in the X Gran Canaria Half Marathon in Memory of Mayor Camilo Sanchez, Hospiten Roca takes another step in their community health program, launched seven years ago and through which, in 2016 they have organized 350 talks aimed at preventing disease in the educational community and other areas.
