Hospiten is promoting the third edition of the 180 Challenge, an initiative aimed at cardiovascular health care and the promotion of healthy lifestyle habits among its professionals.

The 180 Challenge is a program designed to accompany participants in a process of progressive change of habits, combining medical follow-up, nutritional guidance and supervised physical activity for six months, with the aim of promoting sustained improvements in lifestyle. The launching of this third edition gives continuity to an initiative that has been consolidated as a prevention and health promotion tool within the organization.

Participants will have the opportunity to work on three fundamental pillars: cardiovascular health, with specialized medical follow-up; nutrition, with nutritional advice from members of the European University of the Canary Islands; and sports, with personalized physical training, both individually and in groups, at no associated cost. These activities, which have proven their effectiveness in terms of the integral improvement of physical condition, will be carried out in La Orotava, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the south of Tenerife, with flexible schedules.

From the medical point of view, Dr. Elena García-Valdecasas Campelo, medical director and internist at the Hospiten Rambla University Hospital stresses the importance of approaching health from a global perspective: "Cardiovascular prevention is not limited to weight loss, but involves the improvement of different metabolic parameters and the adoption of healthy habits that can be maintained over time," she says.

Dr. García-Valdecasas stresses the fundamental role of regular physical exercise and a balanced diet as the cornerstones for reducing cardiovascular risk and improving quality of life. This preventive approach is one of the central axes of the program, which relies on professional accompaniment and medical supervision as key elements of the process.

In the second edition, in general terms, the quality of life of the participants improved. In most of the professionals there was a reduction in cholesterol and triglycerides, an improvement in insulin resistance, an increase in muscle mass and a better distribution of body fat.

In this regard, Dr. María Ángeles Prytz, specialist in Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging at the Hospiten Rambla University Hospital, points out that "in the 2nd edition the results obtained were quite good; with weight loss in practically all the participants. And, most importantly, with better fat distribution and better recovery of muscle mass".

The physical training guidelines will be supervised by professors from the degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences at the European University of the Canary Islands. In this sense, the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, María Cadenas, says that "since the first edition we wanted to contribute to this initiative with all the experience and knowledge of our teachers, because we consider it essential to join efforts that result in the quality of life of people, helping them to acquire good habits about their health, such as exercise or food".

A training plan that is developed thanks to the collaboration of Ideco, a public company of the Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Tenerife Santa Cruz-Ofra Sports Complex; together with other sports centers such as Fitness Center RH, based in La Orotava; the Nae Fit center, in Icod de los Vinos and the NexsportClub sports center, in Adeje.

The Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Yolanda Moliné, emphasized that "for the third year El Reto 180 is a magnificent example of how collaboration between private and public entities can generate projects that have a direct impact on the health and well-being of people". In this sense, he stressed that "from the Corporation we will always be at the side of initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles and encourage physical activity as a fundamental tool for prevention, because sport is quality of life, health and future". Likewise, Moliné highlighted the comprehensive approach of this initiative. "When professional support is provided and spaces and resources are made available for the practice of sports, the benefits are real and sustained over time. This is the path we want to continue promoting in Tenerife: a more active, conscious and healthy island".

Once again this year, this project, promoted by Hospiten, has the collaboration of the audiovisual production company Kikazaru, which will be in charge of documenting the whole process, providing its audiovisual perspective to reflect the impact and essence of each stage of the project.

With the launch of this third edition of the 180 Challenge, Hospiten continues to make progress in its commitment to caring for its professionals and creating a wellness ecosystem around people, in which prevention, professional support and the adoption of healthy habits form part of an integral vision of health, understood as a balance between physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
