It is the first hospital to offer the service in the southwest of Gran Canaria, whose residents had to travel 50 kilometers to receive specialized care

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, November 27 2015: Hospiten Roca has launched a new Pediatric Emergency Care service to attend children in the southwest of Gran Canaria, where such a service had until now been unavailable, forcing families to make a 50-km journey for their children to be treated.

The service will be open from 08.00 to 20.00 from Monday to Sunday, including public holidays, and will be coordinated by Dr. Sandra Serrano, specialist pediatrician at the hospital. Within the E.R. Hospiten Roca has equipped an area especially for pediatrics with consultation facilities, observation cubicles and a dedicated waiting room, fully prepared to deal with any emergency.

Outside the established opening times, children attending Hospiten Roca Emergency Room will be assessed by the Emergency Physician on duty in accordance with pediatric emergency care protocol and in communication with the pediatric department at all times.

Such personalized care allows the hospital to respond more quickly and efficiently to cases involving minors in the E.R. and to provide the parents or tutors with information first hand, thus reducing the anxiety often felt when there is a lack of clear information.

The initiative forms part of the actions undertaken over the last year by Hospiten Roca to renovate and improve the E.R., which currently has 10 observation cubicles, with areas for CPR, aerosol therapy and wound dressing, general emergencies, trauma and pediatric emergencies.
