Overview

Infectious Diseases is the medical specialty that studies, diagnoses, and treats infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. It covers everything from common infections to severe or resistant diseases, both in immunocompetent and immunocompromised patients.
 
 The department works closely with Emergency Services, Internal Medicine, ICU, Oncology, and others.

  • Respiratory, urinary, digestive, and skin infections
  • Sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • HIV/AIDS and other infectious immunodeficiencies
  • Chronic viral hepatitis
  • Endocarditis and bloodstream infections
  • Hospital-acquired and multidrug-resistant infections
  • Fever of unknown origin
  • Imported or tropical infections

What to Expect During Your Visit

The infectious disease specialist will assess the clinical case, review tests (cultures, PCR, serologies, etc.), and order additional studies if needed. A targeted antimicrobial treatment will be established.


Specialized Services

Specialized clinic for HIV and chronic infectious diseases. Pre- and post-travel international evaluations. Comprehensive infection care for immunocompromised patients. Outbreak control and hospital epidemiological surveillance. Optimization of antibiotic use (PROA program).
