The General Manager of Hospiten Santo Domingo, Benjamin Palmero delivered a donation of medicines to the Servants of Mary for the treatment of malaria, lupus and different rheumatological conditions, to help more than 900 patients. The donation, received by Sister Clara Martinez, is part of Hospiten's corporate social responsibility plan, under which the group has expressed interest in collaborating and contributing to the communities where Hospiten health centers are located.
In a press release, Hospiten reported that the Servants of Mary, founded in Spain in the 19th century, is a religious congregation of the Catholic Church dedicated to caring for the sick based in Madrid and works in missions in Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
During the donation event, the General Manager of Hospiten Santo Domingo, Benjamín Palmero, had the opportunity to see the Congregation's facilities, learn more about their needs and the important work they are doing.
The Servants of Mary, whose members study nursing, offer health services to the most vulnerable people in the communities where they work, treating patients with the limited resources available.
The organization has four convents in the cities of Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Vega, and Puerto Plata in addition to several nursing homes in Puerto Rico and northern Haiti, where they run a clinic that attends more than 150 patients every day.
