Hospiten launches a new campaign of free screening to detect colon cancer at all its centers in Tenerife, Lanzarote, Estepona and Algeciras

Posted on 21-03-2022

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, March 22, 2022. The Hospiten Group activates a new campaign of free screening, on the occasion of World Colon Cancer Day, to make the population aware of the incidence of this pathology and thus, remember the importance of early detection to treat the disease.

According to specialists, about 90 percent of colon and rectal cancer cases could be cured if they were detected early in the stages before the disease progresses. This tumor is the second most common among men and the second most common among women. As a general rule, there are usually no symptoms until the cancer is in an advanced stage, the most common signs being changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, anemia and abdominal pain.

For this reason, Hospiten is organizing a prevention campaign in which information will be provided on how to prevent this type of cancer and in which a free fecal occult blood test is offered.

So, everyone over 50 years of age, or 40 if there is a family history of cancer or colon polyps, interested in participating in this prevention campaign, can make an appointment before March 31, through an online appointment or through the Hospital app.

If the result is positive, users will be offered a free consultation with Hospiten's Digestive specialist.

This is an initiative through which Hospiten wishes to remind the public of the importance of consulting the doctor to undergo one of the two simple tests available to detect the disease early, a colonoscopy and fecal occult blood test, whose performance depends on the age and medical history of each patient. In the event that the result of the fecal occult blood test is positive, a conventional colonoscopy is recommended.
