Training in minimally invasive surgery techniques

Posted on 03-09-2013

Professor Dr. Manuel Maynar, University Professor and Director of the Hospiten Rambla Endoluminal Diagnostics and Therapeutics Center headed a 5-day intensive training course, from August 26-30 2013,  for representatives of CookMedical, in Endovascular Techniques and Interventional Radiology, specifically on minimally invasive treatment of the aorta.

The aim was to explain and demonstrate the bases, structure, materials, indications and use of hybrid endovascular aortic and side branch surgery. Thus, the attendees were able to see for themselves how an aortic endoprosthesis was implanted and they also took part in interactive talks on different specialties – heart surgery, anesthesiology and nursing, among others.

On the second day, participants visited the ‘Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Insular Materno Infantil’ in Las Palmas, the center of the MOTIVA structuring project, of which Prof. Maynar is scientific director, for practical training with medical simulators.

During the week, in addition to working with real cases, the participants connected by videoconference with the ‘Centro de Cirugía de Minima Invasión’ in Caceres to learn about the experimental work and research the center carries out on minimally invasive techniques.

Prof. Dr. Manuel Maynar is a pioneer in Spain in numerous minimally invasive techniques and carried out the first minimally invasive treatment in Spain on abdominal aortic aneurysms, implanting an endoprosthesis, in 1994.
